meet barbi
Barbi Smole began teaching Pilates eleven years ago. Her second child was three months old at the time. He was such a big baby that her back could not handle his weight. Pilates became Barbi's saving grace. Without it, she would still be getting cortisone shots, weekly massages and maybe even surgery to repair the damage.
Barbi is a former dancer with experience from the pre-professional program at BalletMet as well as the Modern Dance Program at The Ohio State University. She has been able to carry her love of dance into her career as a instructor. Watching a body in motion is an amazing sight and Barbi loves working with clients to help fine-tune their alignment, posture and strength.
Barbi has three wonderful children and a very supportive husband. When she's not teaching, Barbi runs the Curing Coats Fundraiser to raise research funds for The Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins. Visit, Curing Coats on Facebook for more information.
Barbi teaches Pilates from her newly remodeled, home studio.

why pilates?
Pilates is a movement system developed by Joseph Pilates during World War II. Developed for injured soldiers, Pilates allowed these men to move their bodies to eventually become stronger and healthier. Joseph moved to New York at the height of the war and continued to practice and teach Pilates to as many people as possible, mainly dancers and women.
Pilates has gained attention as a practice that not only helps to strengthen your core and correct back issues, but as a form of exercise that can be incorporated into your daily routine. Pilates is great for all ages, from children to adults.
